Start with the room. The choice follows coverage, appearance, mounting and service needs; subwoofers may support low frequencies, but placement and boundary effects still need review.
What is tested outdoors?
Commissioning needs evidence. Walk the occupied area at expected listening level, check transitions between zones, verify polarity and inspect audible spill at the agreed boundary. Wind and background noise can change the result, so limitations are recorded.
How do landscape work, service access and seasons affect the plan?
Scope sets the budget. Cost is influenced by listening-area size, speaker quantity, subwoofers, trenching or conduit, protected junctions, amplification channels, landscape restoration and control zones. Portable speakers are a sensible alternative for infrequent use. A permanent outdoor entertainment system may combine distributed garden audio with a weather-suitable display or protected projection position, local inputs and simple event presets. Those video and equipment choices need separate weather, glare, power and storage checks; an indoor television is not made outdoor-safe by placing it under a shallow canopy.
Commissioning needs evidence. Coordinate speaker and display positions with planting, irrigation, drainage, seating and hardscape before trenches close. Test cable circuits before burial, then commission coverage, intelligibility, video sightlines where included, zone transitions, maximum levels and boundary spill after landscaping is substantially complete. Maintenance includes inspecting mounts, glands, drainage and exposed cable after severe weather or garden work. Keep product-specific seasonal instructions and access routes. During internet loss, local stored or connected sources may still work; amplifier, network or controller failure affects zones differently and should be documented at handover.
